Choose the references you actually use

The Creative Grids gridded model has a simpler Stripology reverse, while its Grid-Free mat keeps the center blank. TrueCut puts bias markings on one side. The SewTites mat is designed for a separately sold magnetic ruler and offers handed versions. Choose a layout and ruler workflow before comparing layer counts. [4] [6] [19] [10] [18]

Plan storage and blade use

OLFA specifies rotary blades only for its rotating mat, while CM-9x12-01/YEL and ALVIN GBM explicitly allow fixed blades as well. OLFA says to store mats flat and avoid extreme temperatures; its rotary mats are not ironing surfaces. Quilters Select also warns against rolling, excessive heat and prolonged direct sunlight. Follow the directions for the exact mat rather than trying a heat-based repair from another product. [15] [30] [27] [3] [9]

How we compared.

Source-based comparison of product pages and manufacturer guidance opened October 2, 2026, with a brief reading of individual customer feedback. On the Grace mat page, Karen Seviour liked the two sides but wanted a larger option for trimming whole quilts; her selected size was not identified. That single account informed workspace questions, not owner consensus. Fat Quarter Shop identifies the selected Quilters Select mat as self-healing; manufacturer material supports its layout and care. We have not cut on these mats, measured grid accuracy, tested surface recovery or compared lifespan. Ranking favors useful sewing-room choices: large versus small work, detailed versus blank grids, a rotating top, transparency and a magnetic ruler system. Listed size is not always the marked cutting area or outside footprint. Check both against your table and templates, choose the exact model and follow its blade and care instructions.
